Event Vision

A  two-day event on co-existence between humans, animals, and all of nature – with focus on the most critical factor affecting all living beings - the impending threat to the existence of all living beings on our planet due to climate change.

Humans, in the course of their lives so far, have transformed naturally occurring green spaces into residential and commercial areas - leading to the gradual disappearance or shrinking of green areas, forests, and vital water-bodies such as rivers, ponds and lakes, leading to the habitat destruction of all other non-human lives.

Today, we witness nature and both its wild and stray animals - whether birds, cows, dogs, marine life, even trees suffering dramatically. This situation has escalated into a severe and ongoing conflict between humans and all these voiceless entities.

Thus, we are initiating a series of dialogues between the audience, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to address co-existence and the immediate threats posed by climate change impacting both humans and biodiversity.

We believe these individuals joining us from all walks of life, after this extensive interaction will go back to their particular worlds, they would also spread the message amongst their massive set of followers from across the globe - enlightening and educating them in the process on this very basic yet immensely crucial concept.

Session Details (DAY 1)

Session 1 - Imagining Sustainable + Greener Cities

This session explores how sustainable urban planning, community-driven green initiatives, and ecological co-existence can transform concrete jungles into thriving ecosystems.

  • Reclaiming urban spaces for Nature and co-existence of all species as climate change intensifies and urban heat islands grow - it is critical to re-imagine our cities as inclusive, green spaces that are sustainable and support both humans and non-human life.
  • From better infrastructure for public transport to urban forests, we will discuss innovative solutions to make our cities resilient, bio-diverse, and compassionate.

Session 2 - Country for People, Country For Nature

In this session, we focus on the on-ground action to courtroom fights to identify and save both urban and rural open ecosystems in Delhi-NCR and across the country.

  • The rare natural refuges lie under great threat and it has become crucial to highlight struggles to protect and preserve them across India. Urban forests are vital lifelines in our rapidly expanding cities, offering shelter to wildlife and clean air to people.
  • We shall explore how forests and other natural ecosystems within city limits can co-exist with development, the legal and civic movements driving their protection, and how preserving these green sanctuaries is essential for the well-being of both humans and animals.

Session 3 - Delhi Rising

This session under the ‘Delhi Rising’ campaign unpacks the reasons behind erratic weather patterns leading to increase in extreme heat waves, its causes, and projected future scenarios of extreme weather conditions.

  • Understanding heat waves and their impact on the vulnerable as temperatures in cities like Delhi reach alarming high, heat-waves are no longer seasonal anomalies but recurring crises. We examine how these rising temperatures disproportionately affect those most exposed - street animals, wildlife, domestic pets, and economically disadvantaged humans.
  • Through data, stories, and solutions, we aim to spark urgent action to mitigate heat impacts and build climate resilience for all.
  • Erratic weather changes are being felt across the country, especially in urban areas, these phenomena are threatening lives and most vulnerable are the people on the streets and animals in the city. If such events increase then they will disturb the economy too.

Session 4 - Protection and Preservation of Open Ecosystems and their Biodiversity

This session focuses on how bio-diverse ecosystems offer significant mental and physical health benefits to urban residents and foster climate adaptation.

  • There is so much that our cities have when it comes to biodiversity. Why it is crucial to identify, protect and preserve these bio-diverse vital ecosystems? The panelists will answer.
  • As Delhi and similar other big cities face escalating challenges from air pollution, rising temperatures, and rapid urbanization, its green spaces - such as wetlands, parks, and urban forests - act as vital ecological buffers. They filter pollutants, mitigate the urban heat island effect, support groundwater recharge, and provide habitat for native species, many of which are under severe threat.

Session 5 - Advocacy + Action : The Right Way

This session will focus on how right advocacy and action ensures that citizens, policymakers, and businesses are held accountable and are guided by scientific knowledge, equity, and urgency - driving systemic change.

  • Rapid urban expansion, high population density, and unsustainable consumption patterns put immense pressure on natural resources, leading to pollution, loss of green spaces, and declining air and water quality.
  • Without informed and targeted advocacy, policies may overlook long-term ecological health in favor of short-term development goals. Panelists will speak on how effective environmental advocacy and action in urban settings not only protects the local environment but also sets a precedent for national and global sustainability efforts.

Session 6 - Role of Spirituality in Understanding and Practicing Co-Existence

Through this session, we will focus on how through mindfulness, inner reflection, and ethical living, spirituality nurtures empathy and a moral responsibility to protect the planet and support just, peaceful societies.

  • Spirituality plays a profound role in understanding and practicing co-existence by fostering a deep sense of interconnectedness between all forms of life. Rooted in compassion, humility, and reverence for nature, spiritual traditions across cultures emphasize the importance of living in harmony with others and the environment.
  • This perspective encourages individuals to look beyond self-interest and recognize the intrinsic value of every being - human and non-human alike. In a world increasingly divided and disconnected, panelists will shed light on how spirituality offers a powerful framework for cultivating respect, balance, and sustainable co-existence.

Session Details (DAY 2)

Session 1 - City of People, City For Animals

This session focuses on the need of Human-Animal co-existence in today’s world. With increasing conflict between the species, it has become highly crucial to understand and practice co-existence.

  • Population control of Dogs and not relocation is the solution. Authorities' apathy from Animal Birth Control (ABC) infrastructure to its on-ground implementation, are to be discussed.
  • Conflicts on presence of dogs in urban residential and institutional places.
  • Role of animal feeders and their importance.
  •  Rising costs of sterilization for community animals.
  • Educating via. Government agencies, to end harassment of feeders by RWAs and residents.
  • Women at forefront in animal caretaking and increased abuse and threats towards these women animal feeders.
  •  Illegal and forceful relocation of community dogs.
  • Greater accountability and coordination between civic bodies, RWAs, and animal welfare groups.

Session 2 - Government responsibility on Co-existence between Humans and Animals

This session will focus on the crucial role of the government and authorities in making peaceful co-existence a reality in our cities and across the country.

  • SPCA in every district of India, SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in each district is mandated by the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, to ensure the welfare and protection of animals within that jurisdiction. The act mandates the establishment of SPCAs in every district to prevent cruelty and enforce animal welfare schemes, including those of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). These district-level SPCAs play a crucial role in managing animal birth control (ABC) programs, enforcing animal cruelty laws, and providing financial assistance to animal welfare organizations.
  • Demand for upgrading and proper staffing at all 77 Government Veterinary Hospitals across Delhi.Need for improved infrastructure and hygiene in Gaushalas across Delhi.
  •  Urgent requirement for 24x7 animal ambulances for both large and small animals.
  • Implementation of illegal Breeding for Imported dogs and Pet shop.

Session 3 - Reducing Animal Products for a Greener City Future

This session will explore the possibilities of reducing dependency on animal products for making lives of the city dwellers greener as well as our cities more cleaner.

  • As city populations surge, the demand for animal-based products continues to rise—driving the expansion of animal agriculture. This growth places immense pressure on land and water resources, accelerates deforestation, increases greenhouse gas emissions, and threatens biodiversity.
  •  Cities must recognize the environmental cost of this demand and begin conversations around responsible consumption and sustainable alternatives.
